'Tis the season for Holiday family photos! We are so excited to post our next Christmas themed shoot with the Stromak family. Between the matching Christmas slippers, the matching Christmas pajamas, and the matching Christmas mugs- it's safe to say this shoot is planned to the T! We're just hoping all works out in getting the tree ready for the shoot. Wish us luck! If you're planning a Holiday family photo shoot, this blog post will help.
Planning your family's holiday photo shoot:
-
Find a family photographer- Lucky you, you've found one! Contact us today or use our booking form to schedule your family photo shoot. You can also take a look at our portfolio to see our work. Keep in mind, all of our shoots are tailored to the clients and are meant to be meaningful to them. Your family's shoot will be unique and personal to your family.
-
Pick the location- You may have a spot in mind already or you may need help from your photographer. We love helping brainstorm for the location. Our goal is to find the location that will mean the most to you. So go ahead and ask us for options, we're here for it!
- Styling outfits for the shoot- We love thinking in terms of color scheme. This is why we list the location first. The setting of the shoot and the colors in the background should be complimentary with the colors you choose for your family's outfits. However, holiday photo shoots typically end up being red, green, white, or beige outfits. We love a white and beige Christmas shoot with a green background. This is the outfit to plan down to the detail, meaning- bring out those accessories you save for special occasions, because now is the time!
- Props for your family shoot- Not every family photo shoot will have props and not every family photo shoot should. For a holiday photo shoot, props make the photos shine. Whether it is a Christmas tree and gifts below or a gingerbread house for the family to build together, there are endless options for props. We're happy to give you ideas.
The day of your family's holiday photo shoot:
-
The night before- Getting ready for the shoot includes getting proper beauty rest. Make sure everyone gets to bed at a decent time to achieve REM sleep. Don't forget to lay out your outfits and pack up your props before hitting the sack.
- Getting ready for the shoot- Expect life to happen and give yourself and your family plenty of time to get ready and arrive for the photo shoot. Every detail matters for a photo shoot so if one thing gets left out due to timing, you're going to kick yourself later.
- What to bring to the photo shoot- Ultimately, this is the last thing to worry about. However, it might be helpful to come prepared. If the photo shoot is off the beaten path, some comfortable walking shoes will be necessary. Its always good to take a peek at the weather and see what type of climate you'll be shooting in. Tissues, a handheld fan, and some bottled water come in handy on a hot sunny Florida day. If its looking like a windy day, or if the shoot is somewhere windy like the beach, bringing a hairbrush will save the day...and the shoot! We just want you and your family comfortable during your holiday photo shoot so come with as much or as little as you need.
- Heading to your family's holiday photo shoot- It's impossible to predict what might happen on your travels to the photo shoot. You may have to turn around for something you forgot or there may be unexpected traffic. Leave yourself and your family plenty of time to travel to the photo shoot. It's better to be early!
Planning for your family holiday photo shoot can be as simple or as intricate as you'd like. Just getting the photos taken is the most important thing. Life passes by too quickly and before you know it, you and the family will be looking back on these family photos with nostalgia of holidays past.
We hope this blog has helped you in planning your family holiday photo shoot. If you have more questions about what to expect, don't hesitate to reach out! We'd love to help in any way we can.
Happy Holidays!
